SUP Series Round 2 (July 17th)

Results

Round two of the PureMagic SUP Series worked out a treat, with happy faces allround. After much consideration and monitoring of the forecast we landed on Burrow Beach, Sutton last night for an evening of paddle racing. I’m so glad we waited as conditions we’re excellent and improved all evening, after the usual race briefing, the competitors sprinted away for a single race, 4.4k for xover, 6.6k for 12’6 raceboards. Our goal achieved ‘To set a course that would act as a warm up to SUP the Lough at the weekend’.

Some familiar faces couldn’t make last nights racing and where sadly missed. On the plus side; it was great to have IrishSUP Paul, and Walkonwater Ed join us, after there recent SUP surf & race trip to Gower and Brighon in the UK.

We’re taking a break next week with racing resuming on Tuesday 31st July. Expect the competition to be tougher than ever, with quite a few paddlers planning to taking some time out to work on race fitness & technique over the break.

Special thanks’s to JJ Daly for excellent race management, everyone for turning up and lending there paddle to the startline, or shouts from the shore, and Steve for sorting out the results.

And here they are –

Update:17th July Midday:

Notice to Race (12pm Tuesday 17th): After much consideration the venue for racing this evening will be Burrow Beach, Sutton. We expect the wind to build slowly over the the day from a west/ soth west direction. Burrow offers the best protection against the wind while offering wind against tide to balance and make for a great nights activity. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Update:16th July:

PureMagic SUP Series Round 2 update: looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow (Tuesday 17th July)

Good News: we’re definitely racing, as usual briefing at 7.15, start at 7.30 sharp…. hope you all can make it!

Not So Good News: We will call the venue for racing at midday tomorrow on the website and facebook. Right now we are between Dollymount beach, or Burrow Beach in Sutton. Both areas are exposed and work in opposite conditions. The forecast is very changeable at the moment so by leaving it till midday tomorrow we have the best chance of scoring perfect conditions, vs horrible conditions.

happy paddling, cu tomorrow
